Swedish popsters Starlet comprised singer/guitarist Jonas Farm, guitarist Joakim Odlund, bassist Henrik Martensson, keyboardist Anders Baeck and drummer Ludvig Engelbert. Their debut LP from the one you left behind appeared on the Parasol label in 1997, with the superb follow-up, Stay on My Side, surfacing three years later. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide[more]

The maturation of this Swedish Pop Band means a bit less Rickenbacker jangle and some extra oomph in the guitars effects, a lick of exploration, there's a few Field Mice albums in Starlet's record collection/collective unconscious. Sonic frosting for the purely brilliant songwriting and arranging going on, front and center, Starlet adorns their forlorn lovesongs with an elemental beauty. Starlet is yet another Swedish band turning out collections of sweet and pleasant pop, references to the Acid House Kings and the Cardigans' Life are pretty much unavoidable here, even if Starlet doesn't quite have the qualities of either of those bands. Starlet falls somewhere in between on When Sun Falls on My Feet. At times, Jonas FSrm sounds like he's straining to be Morrissey, with all the lyrical prose along for the ride. The band has its heart in the right place, but it's lacking the passion or songwriting to go with it. The acoustic numbers, such as {&"Make That Stone B   [ read more ]
