Maritime
Formed out of the ashes of the Promise Ring and the Dismemberment Plan, indie rock outfit Maritime come by the way of Washington, D.C., and Milwaukee. Davey von Bohlen (vocals/guitar), Dan Didier (drums), and Eric Axelson (bass) formed in 2003. With an earnest pop sound that taps into the sandy-toned melodies of Elephant 6 and classic punk hooks, Maritime released their debut album, Glass Floor, in 2004. Arriving in 2006, We, the Vehicles marked their first release for the Flameshovel label. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide[more]

We, the Vehicles, the second album from the collective of Davey von Bohlen, Dan Didier [both formerly of The Promise Ring] and Eric Axelson [formerly of The Dismemberment Plan], is a triumphant realization of the unlabored goal of Maritime and an occasional turn toward the darker, denser corners of years past. That's right: We, the Vehicles isn't all sunshine and bubbles. The band remains solidly tethered to pop perfection, but has taken space to let that pop cycle through all its permutations [ read more ]

Maritime rise from the ashes of two of the most loved pop bands to come from the '90s punk scene, The Promise Ring and the Dismemberment Plan. Their full-length album, "Glass Floor," might well be one of the greatest pop records of the year. Produced by J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines), it's filled with smart and sunny pop songs that aren't afraid to embrace the wobbliness of youth. ?All My Days? nods to the lost UK pop of the late ?80s and early ?90s; ?Souvenirs? marries melancholy to a lovingly lazy [ read more ]

The songs on Heresy and the Hotel Choir are among the best any of these fellas have written in any of their bands, and they're so unabashedly crackling with energy that if you're not jiggling in your seat a little bit right now, you might very well have some kind of disease that makes you sit still. Maritime's second album continues the low-key guitar pop shimmer of their debut, 2004's The Glass Floor. Several steps removed from the earnest emo anguish of their old outfits the Promise Ring (singer/guitarist Davey vonBohlen and drummer Dan Didier) and the Dismemberment Plan (bassist Eric Axelson), We, the Vehicles is a comparatively sunny effort, musically speaking. vonBohlen's guitars favor crisply strummed, melodic lines, fleshed out with occasional keyboards.
