Listening to this limited-edition (2,500) expanded reissue of Guadalcanal Diary's debut album from 1984, it's remarkable that fellow Georgia neighbors R.E.M. found fame while this terrific band is little more than a footnote for Southern rock historians. The music here is every bit as intriguing, mysterious, melodic, and well, Southern as anything on the first few R.E.M. discs, which makes the relatively meager quantity of this reissue even more frustrating.
