Richmond's DENALI has seen great change of late. During preparations for the recording of The Instinct, two members lost love, one found it anew, and another became engaged. The band also lost their longstanding rehearsal space, rescheduled studio time in the 11th hour, and cancelled a European Tour in order to focus on this album. With such emotional extremes come contrast and introspection, translating into shorter songs, quicker tempos, and seemingly new eyes on the world. Gone are the cold, reserved, atmospheres of the first album, as DENALI is reborn through more evolved, immediate, impassioned, and enveloping compositions. Recorded at Tarquin Studios with Peter Katis (INTERPOL, MERCURY REV) engineering.

Though Threes is Sparta's third full-length release (following the acclaimed Wiretap Scars in 2002, and Porcelain in 2004), it is the first Sparta album for Hollywood Records. It is also the band's first with guitarist Keeley Davis, who joined in 2005, and previously played with Denali and Engine Down. Bassist Matt Miller and drummer Tony Hajjar round out Sparta's line-up.
