Three men, tapes, 'n, and tapes, banded together to salvage what they could from the tundric wasteland. The resulting collective came to be known as 'tapes 'n tapes'. by altering hit records ever so slightly, and plagiarizing great works of German and Norwegian literature, the collective developed a sound wholly their own.

Indie rock at its finest. The Loon has to be ranked along side such classics as Pavement's Slanted and Enchanted and some of the Pixies best work. if you have not heard The Loon from Tape's n Tapes you dont know what you're truly missing.

Tapes 'n Tapes aren't life or even genre-changing. They're accomplished, and a hell of a lot better than most of their contemporaries, but at the end of the day, The Loon is just another past-reaching indie rock album. That's not a problem so much as it is a statement, and in any case, the band never makes any claims otherwise. Tapes 'n Tapes aren't out to change the state of music; they seem happy to take what they've learned from their sonic ancestors and apply it to what they know about good bedroom rock-outs. Most ate The Loon up immediately, based upon the musical touchstones they either heard or were told to hear, but that speaks volumes of the dangers inherent in blog-borne promotion. Tapes 'n Tapes are just an unassuming Minneapolis band, who would probably prefer an honest interest in their honest contributions, over a meaningless induction into a Parthenon of "new greats" that equate to little more than flavors of the week by year's end. It's all there, so let The Loon be what it is: a strong debut by a really good indie rock band.

Man, I just can't figure out what makes this CD so good, but it is. It clicked around the third listen for me and I haven't taken it out of rotation since. It is bombastic, sloppy, derivative and obtuse... and completely irresistible. Nothing profound here, just loads of fun. Vinyl version recommended.

Imagine the music versatility of The Mothers of Invention channeled in a present day indie-rock band & you'll start to understand only a microcosm of the greatness contained in this album. From tough blues track to good shakedown track, 'The Loon' is an album that will intrigue your thoughts and make you dance at the same time. Originally an independent release, this album got so popular on the underground circuit that it was recently released in major record stores in order to meet its high demand. Yes, it's that good. Don't think twice about buying this album, you need it as soon as possible.

Wow, this is a pretty amazing little album that seemed to drop out of no where. My best advice is to listen to a song without any preconception as to what it is going to sound like. Any of the hybrids (will appeal to fans of this band/that band/some other band) that have been laid out are completely and totally wrong. It is far too easy (although not as easy to place as some would like to think) and unfair to the band to do this. Yes the band is influenced by countless others (as is everyone in this day and age), but do not hold them to that. They somehow sculpt a sound completely their own. Actually forget about the one song listen and just buy this album and judge it for yourself. You will have a hard time disliking it.

The Loon is a classic album. Tapes 'n tapes sound is influenced by bands such as Beach Boys/Pixies/Talking Heads/Flaming Lips, but what makes tapes 'n tapes so different and good is that they take and combine these sounds making it their own. Almost each song on this album can be put in a different genre which makes them impossible to catagorise. They are set to take the world on in 2006. They have already recieved a 8.3 rating on Pitchfork and have a growing fan base over here in the UK.
