Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (CD)
Insound Staff Pick - 2008! Few bands can call themselves contemporaries of both the heartbreakingly earnest self-destruction of Whiskeytown and the alienating experimentation of Radiohead's post-millennial releases, but on the painstaking "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot," Wilco seem to have done just that. The long-anticipated "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" continues their genre-jumping and worthwhile experimentation

| I just think YHF is the greatest. It's a conceptual breakthrough. It's so abstract and immaculately crafted. It could be about being lost in the city it could be about being lost on a country road. It's got to be about being lost in America. I'd never heard music and words mesh like that, it's not like one augmented the other, It's like they combine to make to make a bigger picture. Inhabited remorse, self withdrawal, despondency, political commentary, theology, America, nostalgia, unrequited love, fear of hypocrisy, destitution and self awareness. It's all here. Every idiosyncrasy I've ever had corroborated with sounds that are experimental and familiar in the same breadth. Definitely the greatest album of all time. | |

| Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is an album filled with challenging, complex, and beautiful songs but it is an album that stands as a complete and beautiful piece of music. Trying to classify this album in a genre is nearly impossible rock, pop, country, and experimental elements interact seamlessly to create stunning, fragile, and wonderfully rewarding pieces. This album is brilliant, and one that deserves many repeated listens. I would not only reccomend it, but say that anyone interested seriously in any form of music should hear this album at least once. It is a grand and distinctive piece of music, and albums this good do not come along often. | |

| Beautiful album, mellow pop-indie melodies with a touch of country flare. I fell in love with the album the first time I heard it, it's one of those that hooks you, and I've listened to it every day since. Tweedy's voice is melodic, carrying his insightful soothing lyrics perfectly. The essential Wilco album. | |
