#37 Seller of 2005! After releasing their highly praised debut in 2004, this NYC act didn't waste any time getting back in the studio to record a follow up. Led by Craig Finn, ex-Lifter Puller, the band combines intelligent lyrics and ideas with solid classic rock musical foundation, replete with screaming guitar solos. Separation Sunday was co-produced by Dave Gardener (Rocket From The Crypt, Drive Like Jehu & Hot Snakes) & Dean Botulonis (also helmed the knobs & whistles for the Hold Steady's first record.)

User Reviews

Jason Stewart - Norman, OK, USA
This is an all star bar band banging out power cords and cowbell, with a singer who doesn't really sing but rather slurs and spits out anthems straight from the gutter. I found Craig Finn's voice very annoying at first, but then his words started to sink in, and I realized that the songs are just chapters in a genius, beat junky novel of an album. This is the soundtrack of the people looking for the answers of life in the bottom of a whiskey bottle, looking for healing in self-inflicted wounds, looking for salvation in chemical release. This is the story of a strung-out, excess addled girl who finds Jesus, gets born again, and then gets really fucked up. This is classic rock, and this New York City band (via Minneapolis) went straight for the heart by swinging straight for the gut.
